Blue Revolution Foundation participates in Climate Café on floating urban living in Amsterdam

Earlier this week, Blue Revolution Foundation participated in the second of five case-based ClimateCafés organised within the Floating Future research programme, focusing on the Amsterdam Growing Island case study.

The session took place at Strandlokaal IJburg, overlooking Steigereiland, one of the Netherlands’ best-known floating residential areas with more than 90 floating homes. The location provided an inspiring setting for discussions on the future of floating neighbourhoods and climate-adaptive urban development.

Participants worked together in interdisciplinary groups around three central themes:

  • Social and everyday life in floating communities
  • Legal and governance challenges for floating urban development
  • Design concepts and opportunities for scaling up floating neighbourhoods

Using maps, sketches, and collaborative dialogue methods, residents, designers, policymakers, water authorities, and researchers exchanged knowledge and experiences to collectively explore future directions for floating urban living.

The Climate Café brought together a highly engaged network of stakeholders from research, practice, and local government, highlighting the growing momentum around climate-resilient and water-adaptive cities.

Blue Revolution Foundation is proud to contribute to these collaborative knowledge exchanges and to support innovation in sustainable floating development.
